#Giveaway: The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers @beckysaysrawr
As I’ve said before, since my debut is a Young Adult science-fiction novel, I wanted to bring attention to others in the genre. Though Small, Angry Planet is not a Young-Adult sci-fi, I totally thought it worth a giveaway.
So why is this non-YA book worth a giveaway? First, it’s won awards and has been shortlisted for many others.
Secondly, this is the best book I have ever read that deals with alien species. This book did such a great job in showing me how much I assume my “normal” is “normal” for everyone else. And, most of the time, I’m so wrong. I have never been so aware of how judgy I can be, even when I’m trying to understand. I would totally make this required reading for humans everywhere. I think we can all benefit from having a light shined on what we automatically assume about others.
Even if you don’t win this giveaway, please please read.
Here’s the cover (I want this framed and on my walls) and blurb:
Somewhere within our crowded sky, a crew of wormhole builders hops from planet to planet, on their way to the job of a lifetime. To the galaxy at large, humanity is a minor species, and one patched-up construction vessel is a mere speck on the starchart. This is an everyday sort of ship, just trying to get from here to there.
But all voyages leave their mark, and even the most ordinary of people have stories worth telling. A young Martian woman, hoping the vastness of space will put some distance between herself and the life she‘s left behind. An alien pilot, navigating life without her own kind. A pacifist captain, awaiting the return of a loved one at war.
Set against a backdrop of curious cultures and distant worlds, this episodic tale weaves together the adventures of nine eclectic characters, each on a journey of their own.
As usual, here are the giveaway rules: Leave a comment below by Sunday 11:59 pm MST. Winners of the ebook will be chosen at random and contacted!
