Hello blog of mine! It’s my first post for the new decade, so, like everybody…
Blog Tour and Amazon Gift Card Giveaway: Hydro by AC Waltower @acwaltower
Hydro is a YA sci-fi and the first in a new series. You can enter into the $25 Amazon gift card giveaway here through Rafflecopter!
The year is 2091. 75 years ago, a nuclear war desolated Earth. The top 2% of the world fled to Hydro, a compound on the Moon. The rest of the population were left trying to survive on a barren Earth.
Seventeen-year-old Blake lives on Earth with his dad and little brother. When Blake’s father is given the grave sentence of terminal cancer, Blake decides to save his dad by sneaking onto Hydro and making a deal with Hydro’s council. In exchange for them saving his dad, he will give them the answer to everyone’s problem; the location of a new habitable planet.
The unexpected and unannounced arrival of Blake leaves many citizens with mixed feelings, none more confusing than those of sixteen-year-old Ziva. The more she learns about Blake and where he comes from, the more she learns that not everything she is being told about the situation on Earth in true, including those told by her beloved grandfather. Why has he been lying to her? And more importantly what is he hiding from her?
Here’s an excerpt for you!
I walk into my quarters. Instantly, my senses go off. Someone is here. I scan the dark
room. There is a figure sitting in a chair in the dark.
I brace myself for an attack.
I quickly flip the light switch on.
“Well, make yourself comfortable,” I muse.
The figure doesn’t move, just continues to start icily at me.
“I would offer you some tea, but I don’t have any,” I continue on. I gesture around my quarters.
Without a word, he pushes me back against the door.
“Listen,” Isom begins. He speaks harshly, but his voice is low. “You need to stop
trying. Go back home.”
“Guess who I found? Your little brother. He was wandering around looking pitiful, so I
took him. I am going to kill him unless you go back and save him. You have until 5 o’clock tomorrow evening. If you haven’t gotten him by then, I will put a bullet through his head.”
I stiffen at the mention of Ronny. I need to get ba
ck down there before 5 o’clock.
That’s the same time as the council meeting.
“How do I get back down there?”
“You’re a smart kid. You can figure it out,” he says grimly.
He releases me. I don’t even notice when he pushes me out of the way so he can
leave. I am too much in my own thoughts. I don’t trust Isom, but is he lying? Is this a trap?
No, I know that he has Ronny, and he would kill Ronny the first chance he gets. I should havegotten Ronny before I came here, but it’s too late to wonder about that now.
I need to save my brother, but what about my dad? Do I leave and save my brother or do I stay and, hopefully, with the council’s help, save my father?
