Your dreams are made out of comets and stars

After a long and sweaty internet search (alright, more hunger-inducing internet search), I can say that I don’t know who said this.

But the quote is beautiful. I like to amend it by saying “Do not surround yourself with those that treat your dreams like dirt and dust.” Your dreams are worth more than that.

During my freshman year in college, I was walking back to my dorm room with a rather sexy and muscular young man named Randy. (and yes, I was more focused on Randy than my destination) The breeze still held the chill of winter and I babbled about a bunch of random dreams and hopes of mine (something about the guy’s biceps made me rather talkative) One of the dreams being–walking on water.

Granted, I’m pretty sure nobody since the Gospels has walked on water. But I’ve always had a fascination with Peter’s water walking. Something about the idea of doing the impossible really spoke to me at the time. That and Madeleine L’Engle’s book, Walking on Water.

I’ll never forget what Randy told me: “Go for it.”

This was the first time anybody had encouraged me to pursue my dreams, even the far-fetched ones. He didn’t poke fun at my babbling or my fascination with a miracle that had happened long ago and most likely will never happen again. He treated my dreams, and me, like comets and stars.

Your dreams are made from comets and stars. They are worthwhile and beautiful. Surround yourself with those who also believe your dreams are made from star dust, who will keep encouraging you until the end. Because you and your dreams are worth it.

Yes, I did keep Randy around.
