A: Annie Rice says #AtoZChallenge
Today is day one of the April A to Z Blogging Challenge! I chose to create this quote using by Annie Rice’s wise words as my “A”:
Writing makes you vulnerable. You never know if what you write will connect with your audience. You never know if too much of your inner thoughts seep onto the page and everyone finds out how crazy you really are (if you read that italics like Jennifer Lawrence in Silver Lining’s Playbook, I love you right now). You never know if the risks you took will succeed…or bomb like a cake baked in the Mile High city.
People may laugh.
Or. They may cheer and print your face on T-shirts and sell them at outrageous costs.
But you’ll never know until you take the risk and write something. (I hope it’s the latter (;Β )
PS: if your face is ever printed on a shirt, let me know so I can buy and wear it.
Great quote and a great start to the A to Z Challange! I totally agree, you can’t write anything really worthwhile by half-assing it or being fake. You have to be real, raw and that can be scary, but people know when they are reading or seeing the real deal.
littlecely, “you canβt write anything really worthwhile by half-assing it or being fake.”– well said! Sometimes it’s easier to half-ass it–that way you don’t get the guilt of being fake. That’s where I have to stop myself π
Great quote. So true!
Thanks! I thought the quote powerful π
Love the quote and the truth it represents. We must all be brave. Very brave.
Great start to the A to Z challenge. π
“We must all be brave. Very brave.” I imagine Tris from Divergent approving your statement π
This is an excellent post. Personally I’ve been in need of something that will motivate me to take some risks that I’ve been trying to make for a long time. But I’ll never know! And it’s better knowing than always wondering. π
melissuhhsmiles, “And itβs better knowing than always wondering.”–so true. We can drive ourselves CRAZY otherwise. It’s that greener grass, you know?
Thanks for this post. It’s so hard to put yourself out there, but you’re right. If you don’t take the risk, you’ll never know!
Thanks for stopping by, Sheri! Much appreciated π
hello! popping in from the A-Z challenge. Just liked your facebook page. π I’ve had trouble with other ‘follow’ mechanisms today. Come visit me, if you’d like. My fb page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Adventures-in-the-Ballpark-Marianne-Ball/394038163950377?ref=hl
or my blog – you can click on my name to get there. :0)
I have chronic pain too, I suspect I have firbomyalgia, but am trying to avoid that diagnosis. π
Mare, I totally understand the not-wanting-the-diagnosis thing. I’m so sorry you have to deal with it. Chronic pain can be really, really, really difficult. But it’s nice to meet somebody else who understands π Sending you a virtual hug!
What a great quote to start off the challenge! Gotta go pin it π
Whoo hoo for Pinterest! I think it has sucked out part of my soul…
What an inspirational quote to kick off the challenge Abby! π Definitely going on my Writing Inspiration corkboard over my desk, because let’s be honest, sometimes writing can make us all feel like total morons. Can’t wait to see what the rest of the month brings!
I love that you have an actual corkboard! I have to settle for Pinterest, but someday…… My corkboard will take up an entire wall, lol
Splendid post! It’s scary, it’s a risk and it can make one feel a total fool at times. But I’d take the buzz over skydiving any time. Looking forward to the next 25 posts now! Oh, and does it count if you have your own t-shirts printed, or is that cheating??
I think it totally counts…. As long as no one else knows π
π
I agree. Here’s to foolish writers everywhere!
I’ll raise my glass to that!
